Dr. John Tampori, Medical Director of the Volta Regional Hospital (VRH) has on behalf of the VRH Management handed over refurbished lecture hall, office spaces, consulting rooms and laboratories to the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS).
Speaking at a short ceremony to mark the occasion, Dr. Tampori stated that the accomplishment was another milestone in the collaboration between UHAS and the Hospital. He also acknowledged that, the establishment of UHAS has attracted a lot of qualified health professionals to the Hospital.
Dr. Tampori commended the innovative and persevering spirit of Professor Eric Ofori, Dean of SAHS in seeking to transform the Radiology, Medical Imaging, Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics and Medical Laboratory units of both institutions. He was optimistic that the effective collaboration with UHAS will contribute enormously to building a better health system in the Volta Region and beyond.
Professor Eric Ofori, Dean of SAHS, was grateful to the Management of the Volta Regional Hospital for supporting SAHS in their efforts to improve upon the teaching, practical training and supervision of their students.
The Dean of SAHS hinted that his school will soon commence a post graduate programme in Medical Imaging.
Professor Seth Owusu-Agyei, the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor of UHAS described the collaboration as a win-win venture. He paid glowing tributes to the Management of the Volta Regional Hospital and particularly acknowledged the energetic, visionary and positive attitude of Dr. Tampori.
Recounting some of the many collaborations and massive supports UHAS has so far received from the Hospital, Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo, the Registrar of UHAS described the Volta Regional Hospital as the backbone of the University and this she said is well appreciated.
The facilities handed over by the Volta Regional Hospital to the School of Allied Health Sciences include; a 30-seater lecture room for Medical Imaging, space for the Department of Physiotherapy, office spaces for Medical Imaging faculty, office spaces and a Hearing and Assessment room for the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
Others are a laboratory space for the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, space for Dietetics kitchen for practical training and a histopathology laboratory for the Department of Medical Laboratory.
